Description
Amazon EC2 and RDS provide the compute foundation for self-managed databases, application servers, and middleware running in AWS. When PostgreSQL, MySQL, or custom workloads live on EC2 rather than a fully managed service, host-level visibility is essential to separate application issues from infrastructure bottlenecks.
Foglight for AWS Hosts polls Amazon CloudWatch for system-level metrics and presents them in Foglight alongside your database monitors, so operators see host CPU, disk, and network in context with the workloads running on those instances.
Business Challenge
Database teams often monitor the data tier but lack a unified view of the hosts beneath it. Disk saturation, CPU steal, or network limits on an instance can masquerade as database performance problems until someone correlates host and database signals manually.
Foglight for AWS Hosts closes that gap by bringing standard EC2/RDS metrics into the same Foglight console and alerting fabric as your database cartridges.
Key Features
Foglight for AWS Hosts collects CPU utilization, disk I/O, network throughput, and status-check failures from CloudWatch for tagged or specified EC2 instances. IAM credentials and region are agent properties on the Foglight Agent Manager.
Host metrics roll up in Foglight topology and can be correlated with database-level alarms, giving DBAs and platform owners a single place to diagnose the root cause of performance issues.
