Description
Couchbase is a distributed, memory-first NoSQL database that combines a key-value engine, N1QL (SQL for JSON), full-text search, and optional mobile sync through Sync Gateway. Clusters spread data across nodes and buckets, with Cross Datacenter Replication (XDCR) keeping copies consistent across sites. Operating a healthy cluster means watching node resources, bucket saturation, query and index service health, and replica lag at the same time.
Foglight for Couchbase is a purpose-built SMA cartridge. Its FglAM agent talks to the Couchbase cluster REST API over HTTP with Basic auth — no JDBC and no Couchbase SDK — so the same collector works against a self-managed cluster on port 8091 or Capella Operational on 18091.
Business Challenge
Couchbase metrics live in different places: the Admin UI for cluster and node health, the Query service for N1QL latency, the Index service for indexer backlog, XDCR for replica lag, and an optional Sync Gateway for mobile traffic. Native tooling surfaces those signals in isolation and rarely with the history needed to spot a trend before applications feel it.
Foglight for Couchbase treats the cluster as a single health surface. Node, bucket, query, index, replication, and Sync Gateway telemetry roll up with history and rule-based alerting, so operators can go from a hot bucket or a stalled replica to the cause without hopping between consoles.
